Electricity Supply Prices
The supply industry is no longer the highly competitive market it once was. Supply is controlled by just a handful of key suppliers, still marketing their offerings through dozens of brand names, but to all intent and purpose it is an oligopoly.
It is also a major source of revenue for the Government, through taxes such as the Climate Change Levy, the Higher Distribution Costs Levy, the Renewable Fuels Obligation Levy and a host of other taxes which have to be included in the supply price.
But above all, wholesale prices are reliant on raw energy costs – the price of the fuel for our power stations – which account for more than two thirds of the delivered electricity supply price.
